The 2016 Wise Villa Wisdom of Wine is a rich, flavorful wine that excites from the get-go and grows ever more satisfying with each and every sip. A brilliant deep ruby-red color and explosive aromatics set the stage for this delicious red blend’s bold black cherry and berry fruit flavors infused with bramble, dark chocolate and vanilla tones. Rich and smooth but never flabby, the 2016 Wise Villa Wisdom of Wine Meritage-style red positively sings from the glass from the moment it is opened. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah finishes with a melodic aria of satisfying flavors that left our tasting panel begging for an encore. For optimal enjoyment, afford this pure, expressive red blend a few minutes of aeration before consuming at cool room temperature (58°-64° F). Enjoy!

It never seems to amaze us how a winery of the caliber of Wise Villa could escape our attention for more than a vintage or two. However, if the truth be told, the name Wise Villa was not exactly an immediate draw and for no other reason than the name sounded a bit too good to be true. Nevertheless, at The International Wine of the Month Club we are firmly committed to our mantra that “One cannot drink a name, a label, a price tag, or anyone else’s palate, only the wine that rests within the bottle.” Consequently, on the advice of a wise colleague, we jumped right in and we are glad we did.
Wise Villa practices what they preach, as Wise Villa only practices sustainable and organic farming, which does, indeed, make good sense. Located in Placer County, California, nestled among the rolling foothills of the Sierras, Wise Villa has been described as “A Garden of Eden.” Moreover, their wines are uniquely special, pure, and beautiful.
Wise Villa is a family owned and operated winery and vineyard that fashions a bevy of tasty wines from estate owned vineyards. They practice sustainable and organic farming, and all grapes are hand-harvested and sorted three separate times to ensure the ultimate in quality. Moreover, vinification at Wise Villa is carried out with minimal intervention to provide the utmost in “grape to glass” experience. In essence, there is no smoke or mirrors in the cellar at Wise Villa, just good honest winemaking. Wise Villa also operates a Tuscan-style bistro that serves up delicious fare to accompany their award winning wines.
Red wines dominate Wise Villa’s extensive wine portfolio with Bordeaux varietals and blends leading the pack, followed by Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Petite Sirah. This month’s feature, Wise Villa’s exciting 2016 Wisdom of Wine Red Blend, is a Meritage-style offering that truly over-delivers and is hard to beat. White wines, rosés, ports, and dessert wines also make their appearance among this estate’s repertoire. Although Wise Villa remains a young operation with its first release coming in 2009, it has quickly established itself as an exciting quality-minded producer, but don’t just take our word for it. The California State Fair awarded Wise Villa the “2015 Golden State Winery of the Year.” They were also awarded 27 medals at the prestigious 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, putting Wise Villa in the top 3 most awarded medal winners in North America. We invite you to taste and see what the erudite folks at Wise Villa have in store for you.
