Intense ruby red, Mongrana 2022 offers an expressive combination of ripe fruit and distinctly Mediterranean nuances. Morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry lead the aromatic profile, followed by kirsch, ivy and pine needles. As the wine opens, subtler hints of liquorice add complexity. The palate is juicy and fresh, with soft, integrated tannins that provide structure without obscuring the fruit. Its freshness continues through a long, savory finish marked by a persistent mineral character. The result balances generous Tuscan fruit with freshness, savory complexity and an approachable texture.

Mongrana was designed with versatility at the table in mind. Querciabella recommends it with pasta, pizza and Mediterranean flavors, particularly dishes featuring basil, oregano and thyme. Try pasta all'amatriciana, spicy meatballs in tomato sauce, grilled kebabs, panzanella or even falafel with hummus. Its fresh fruit, soft tannins and savory finish also allow it to handle richer or moderately spicy dishes.

Querciabella's roots are in Tuscany, but Mongrana comes from the winery's coastal estate in Maremma, south of Grosseto. After establishing itself in Chianti Classico, the Castiglioni family expanded into Maremma in 1997, acquiring land in the coastal area around Alberese. The estate's vineyards sit roughly 20–50 meters above sea level on mineral-rich soils containing silt, alluvial sand, gravel and surface pebbles.

First produced in 2005, Mongrana was created as an unoaked red that captures Maremma's ripe fruit while maintaining freshness. The 2022 vintage is 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, according to Querciabella's vintage-specific technical sheet. The organically farmed grapes were harvested between August 24 and September 24, and the wine was made in small cement and stainless-steel vats. It is also produced without animal-derived products and is certified vegan.
