Fan D. Oro Chardonnay 2022 pours a bright golden hue with luminous clarity. The aromatic profile opens with ripe pineapple, baked apple, and pear, layered with subtle citrus zest. Oak aging contributes notes of vanilla, toasted almond, and light brioche. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a creamy, rounded texture balanced by fresh acidity. Tropical fruit and orchard fruit flavors are complemented by hints of buttered toast and gentle spice from French oak maturation. Despite its richness, the wine maintains composure due to its high-elevation fruit source, which preserves vibrancy. The finish is smooth and persistent, with lingering notes of apple, citrus peel, and toasted nuts. Serve at 50–55°F to showcase both freshness and oak integration. Brief aeration in the glass enhances aromatic complexity and texture.
Fan D. Oro’s combination of richness and acidity makes it versatile at the table. Pair with roasted chicken, turkey with herb butter, or grilled pork tenderloin. Its creamy texture complements lobster, scallops, or seafood risotto, while acidity keeps the palate refreshed. The wine also works beautifully with creamy pasta dishes, mushroom-based preparations, or roasted root vegetables. Semi-aged cheeses such as Manchego or Comté echo its nutty oak tones. For a lighter option, try it with grilled vegetables or chicken Caesar salad. The balance of fruit and oak allows it to bridge both seafood and poultry dishes seamlessly.
Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro is located in Quintanilla de Onésimo within Spain’s Castilla y León region, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero area. Founded in the early 1990s by Florentino Arzuaga, the estate has become one of Ribera del Duero’s most respected producers, known primarily for Tempranillo-based reds grown at high elevation. The vineyards sit approximately 900 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils, where intense sunlight is balanced by dramatic day-to-night temperature swings. This diurnal shift preserves acidity and aromatic definition while allowing full ripening.
While Ribera del Duero is internationally recognized for powerful red wines, Arzuaga expanded its portfolio to include white varieties grown under similar high-altitude conditions. Fan D. Oro represents the estate’s expression of Chardonnay, cultivated in estate vineyards known as La Planta. The continental climate—marked by cold winters and hot summers—creates a distinctive growing environment, producing grapes with concentration and structure.
Fermentation and aging for Fan D. Oro take place in French oak barrels, reflecting a Burgundian-inspired approach adapted to Spanish terroir. The result is a wine that combines the richness associated with warm climates and the freshness preserved by elevation. Arzuaga’s commitment to estate-grown fruit and controlled yields ensures balance between fruit intensity and structural precision.
