Tenuta Guado al Tasso, a premier Antinori estate, is located within the Bolgheri DOC on Tuscany's Upper Maremma coast, approximately 100 km southwest of Florence. The estate spans around 320 hectares (approx. 790 acres) planted with vines on diverse alluvial soils—including clay-sand, clay-loam, and fine gravelous “scheletro” deposits—contributing to elegant and structured wines.
The estate was inherited by Piero Antinori's mother, Carlotta Della Gherardesca Antinori, in the 1930s—marrying the prestigious Antinori and Della Gherardesca families, both long associated with Bolgheri viticulture.
Since the first vintage of Guado al Tasso in 1990, the estate has played a leading role in redefining Bolgheri as a global wine region, especially with its flagship Bordeaux-style red blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and sometimes Petit Verdot).
The estate's signature configuration—the Bolgheri Amphitheater—creates a unique terroir. Rolling hills walled around a plain protect from harsh winds while channeling cooling maritime breezes and promoting beneficial diurnal temperature swings. This environment is ideal for cultivating both Bordeaux varieties and white grapes like Vermentino.
The vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and both white and red Vermentino.
The coastal climate, combined with midday sun and cooler nights, enhances aromatics and helps build structure across the estate's varietals.
In short, Tenuta Guado al Tasso reflects the Antinori family's blend of tradition and innovation—rooted in noble Bolgheri soil and shaped by careful vineyard practices and skilled winemaking. Its wines express both elegance and depth, positioning the estate as a benchmark for Tuscany's coastal wine identity.
