\"Rose<\/a>Ros\u00e9 wines are hot, even more popular than ever before and not just in summer. That will come as no surprise to consummate wine drinkers, but what is surprising is the recent proliferation of varietals and styles of ros\u00e9 that were unheard of just a few years ago. What started as a sea of ros\u00e9 wines from France\u2019s Provence and nearby Languedoc has turned into an international tsunami of exciting pink wines from all over the globe and from a host of grape varietals<\/a>. No longer are Grenache, Syrah and other Rh\u00f4ne grape varieties the only games in town.<\/p>\n

In addition to seeing the proliferation of ros\u00e9 wines from an assortment of grape varieties, increasingly fine Proven\u00e7al ros\u00e9s proliferate across the board from top to bottom. Languedoc is offering many great value ros\u00e9 wines, too, many with a bit more swagger than their Proven\u00e7al neighbors. Ch\u00e2teau Sainte Eulalie\u2019s 2018 Printemps d\u2019Eulalie Minervois ros\u00e9<\/a> is a splendid example of Languedoc\u2019s full-bodied style of ros\u00e9. And from Provence, one can\u2019t beat the 2018 Le Proven\u00e7al C\u00f4tes de Provence ros\u00e9 for value and flavor. For the ultimate in Proven\u00e7al ros\u00e9, Ch\u00e2teau Marg\u00fci\u2019s 2018 C\u00f4teaux Varois en Provence ros\u00e9<\/a> from George Lucas\u2019 Skywalker estate delivers all year round and ages beautifully, too.<\/p>\n

Quality newcomers to the world of pink include Artesana\u2019s 2017 Tannat ros\u00e9, which is made in Uruguay (yes, Uruguay, and it is first rate) from the grape that gave us the word tannin. Deep, full-bodied, and wonderful by itself, it also complements flavor-filled dishes, including Vietnamese and Thai specialties. South Africa\u2019s 2018 Rustenberg Petit Verdot ros\u00e9 adds a whole other dimension and style to today\u2019s ros\u00e9 scene, and it, too, makes a fine choice to serve with flavorful, spicy dishes.<\/p>\n

Oregon and California Pinot Noir ros\u00e9s are also first class, although most tend to be pricier than their international counterparts and available in limited quantities. Spain<\/a> and Italy<\/a> have also increased the quality and production of their pink wines with Garnacha (Grenache) and Sangiovese, respectively, leading the varietal charge in each of those countries. Last but not least, Bordeaux<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest fine wine producing region, has come awash with Cabernet and Merlot based ros\u00e9s that are increasingly tasty and food friendly.<\/p>\n
