{"id":3329,"date":"2015-04-24T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/?p=3329"},"modified":"2015-04-01T11:19:55","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T18:19:55","slug":"whats-new-in-italian-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/whats-new-in-italian-wine\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s New in Italian Wine?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tuscany-San-Gimignano.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2671\" src=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tuscany-San-Gimignano-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Tuscany - San Gimignano\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tuscany-San-Gimignano-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tuscany-San-Gimignano-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/italy-wine-region-guide.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Italian wine<\/a> often gets overlooked with the proliferation of New World wines invading the market, but Italy continues to be a source of new and interesting wines.\u00a0 Although much of what is new in Italian wine stems from recent releases rather than new wineries, there is no shortage of the latter.\u00a0 And many first time Italian wines to our shores may indeed issue from centuries old wineries.\u00a0 After all, what are a few centuries to Italy?<\/p>\n<p>Most intriguing to me from Tuscany are the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/le-potazzine-gorelli-rosso-di-montalcino-2012.htm\" target=\"_blank\">2012 Rosso di Montalcino<\/a> and 2010 Brunello di Montalcino wines from <b>Le Potazzine <\/b><b>Gorelli<\/b>, both of which are a home run.<\/p>\n<p>Equally compelling are the organic wines from newcomer <b>Monterotondo.<\/b>\u00a0 Monterotondo\u2019s 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva positively sings from the glass.\u00a0 It invokes the fecundity, purity and everlasting charm of Tuscany.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone, Alesandro Sderci\u2019s <b>Il Palazzino<\/b> Chianti Classico estate has recently released the family\u2019s outstanding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/podere-il-palazzinola-pieve-chianti-classico-2004.htm\" target=\"_blank\">2010 Chianti Classicos<\/a>. \u00a0Sderci also introduced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/podere-il-palazzino-bertinga-toscana-igt-2008.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Bertinga<\/a>, an elegant Tuscan Cabernet blend, to the U.S. for the first time with the 2008 vintage.<\/p>\n<p>Lest we think southern Italy the neglected step child, there are plenty of exciting wines flowing from the fabled Amalfi Coast as well as the hinterlands of Campania and points south<b>. \u00a0Benito Ferrara<\/b>, <b>Caggiano,<\/b> and<b> Colli di Lapio<\/b> make some of the best red and white wines in southern Italy.\u00a0 Colli di Lapio\u2019s outstanding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/past-selections\/2013\/aug.htm#colli-di-lapio-fiano-di-avellino-docg-2011\" target=\"_blank\">2013 Fiano di Avellino<\/a> and 2010 Taurasi Vigna Andrea might be the two best white and red Campanian wines to start and finish a meal, though every wine from the diminutive Colli di Lapio estate merits seeking out.\u00a0 White and red wines from Benito Ferrara and Caggiano stand out as well.<\/p>\n<p>Don<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Italian wine often gets overlooked with the proliferation of New World wines invading the market, but Italy continues to be a source of new and interesting wines.\u00a0 Although much of what is new in Italian wine stems from recent releases rather than new wineries, there is no shortage of the latter.\u00a0 And many first time [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":""},"categories":[7,14],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>What\u2019s New in Italian Wine?
