It is arguably Italy\u2019s greatest red wine and just the elixir one needs to make it through a cold winter\u2019s night<b>.\u00a0 Luigi Pira, Paolo Conterno<\/b>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/querciola-barolo-docg-2008.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Querciola<\/b><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/revello-barolo-2010.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Revello<\/b><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/seghesio-barolo-2008.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Seghesio<\/b><\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/silvio-grasso-barolo-2008.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Silvio Grasso<\/b><\/a> all make top notch Barolo.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gigondas \u2013 <\/b>As the Rh\u00f4ne Valley\u2019s heartiest red wine, stouter even than many Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas was once used as <em>bonesetter<\/em>, AKA wine to beef up the finest red Burgundy wines in cool years because of its strength, vigor, and substantial alcoholic content.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/domaine-raspail-ay-gigondas-2004.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Domaine Raspail-Ay<\/b><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/blog\/collector-series-top-picks-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>La Vau<\/b><\/a> are two excellent examples of powerful, palate-pleasing Gigondas.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ribera del Duero<\/b> \u2013 Spain\u2019s grandest, fullest-bodied Tempranillo based wines emanate from the hills along the Duero River.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/bodegas-alejandro-fernandez-tinto-pesquera-ribera-del-duero-2006.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Pesquera<\/b><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/condado-de-haza-ribera-del-duero-2004.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Condado de Haza<\/b><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/dehesa-la-granja-vadillo-de-la-guarena-zamora-seleccion-2000.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Dehesa la Granja<\/b><\/a> (from nearby Zamora), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/emilio-moro-ribera-del-duero-2006.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Emilio Moro<\/b><\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/2006-bodegas-y-vinedos-montecastro-ribera-del-duero.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Montecastro<\/b><\/a> are just a few of the top producers who fashion hearty reds from Ribera del Duero, a wine that provides both comfort and warmth during the long winter months.<\/p>\n<p><b>Syrah\/Shiraz<\/b> \u2013 Not all Syrah- or Shiraz-based wines make great winter warmers, but the biggest and best surely do.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/chapel-hill-mclaren-vale-shiraz-1999.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Chapel Hill<\/b><\/a><b>, d\u2019Arenberg, <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/turner-cole-eden-valley-riesling-2005.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Henschke<\/b><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/torbreck-the-struie-barossa-shiraz-2003.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Torbreck<\/b><\/a> from South Australia; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winemonthclub.com\/bellingham-the-bernard-series-small-barrel-s-m-v-2011.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Bellingham\u2019s Bernard Series<\/b><\/a> from South Africa; and the best
