\"casa-silva-reserva-carmenere-2010\"<\/a>This month\u2019s Top Picks provide a little personal drama.\u00a0 For starters, Querciola\u2019s Barbera d\u2019Alba and Domaine de la Collonge\u2019s Macon-Fuiss\u00e9 have been perennial favorites, but then so have Casa Silva\u2019s delicious Reserva Carmen\u00e8re and Lawson\u2019s Gewurztraminer.\u00a0 Yet, I have to admit that one would be hard pressed to find a better Barbera d\u2019Alba than Querciola\u2019s 2010.\u00a0 Ripe, juicy and bursting with flavor Querciola\u2019s 2010 Barbera d\u2019Alba charmed the panel with its array of crisp abundant flavors.\u00a0 Consequently, it gets my first Top Pick.<\/p>\n

That said, I love good Carmen\u00e8re, so it would be easy for me to choose Casa Silva\u2019s excellent 2010 Reserva Carmen\u00e8re as my other top choice, but I wouldn\u2019t be able to sleep tonight if I did.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 It\u2019s not that the wine is undeserving.\u00a0 To the contrary, nobody consistently turns out better Carmen\u00e8re than Casa Silva.\u00a0 However, Lawson\u2019s Dry Hills Gewurztraminer is unquestionably the finest New or Old World Gewurztraminer I have had the pleasure to drink in quite awhile, so it wins Top Pick this time around.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s difficult to get Gewurztraminer just right \u2013 not too sweet, not to bitter \u2013 but Lawson\u2019s managed to arrive at the perfect spot for my taste.\u00a0 More importantly, it paired superbly with a variety of dishes and made believers out of many who were prepared not to like Gewurztraminer.\u00a0 In short, Lawson\u2019s hit a home run with their 2010 Gewurztraminer.\u00a0\u00a0 A votre sant\u00e9<\/i>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
