This month\u2019s first Top Pick is a no brainer.\u00a0 The 2009 Ch\u00e2teau Barreyre clearly stands out as an extraordinary example of what Bordeaux can deliver for a price most of us can afford.\u00a0 The prodigy of an overachieving Petit Ch\u00e2teau in a fabulous vintage the 2009 Ch\u00e2teau Barreyre delivers everything one could ask from a top notch Petit Ch\u00e2teau: an alluring\u00a0 aromatic profile, plenty of up front cassis fruit, a nuanced complex mid-palate, and just enough ripe tannins to further its development for several more years.\u00a0 Drink this wine happily now and over the next four or five years.\u00a0 My second Top is more problematic.\u00a0 The 2011 Vesevo Falanghina is a delicious white wine from Italy\u2019s Campania and the finest Falanghina we have tasted from this excellent winery.\u00a0 However, two other outstanding features make this month\u2019s second Top Pick a tough choice.\u00a0 Bisci\u2019s 2011 Verdicchio Matelica remains a personal favorite because I find it simply hard to resist as an aperitif or accompaniment to seafood, but then there\u2019s the exuberant 2011 Gormaz Ribera del Duero: it may just be the best value in Tempranillo from Spain\u2019s legendary Ribera del Duero.\u00a0 So, who gets the crown?\u00a0 It truly depends upon one\u2019s preferences and what accompanies the wine, but pushed to make a decision I have to opt for Vesevo\u2019s 2011 Falanghina.\u00a0 Falanghina is an ancient varietal that is little known in America.\u00a0 It\u2019s excellent with seafood and holds up well to spicy sauces.\u00a0 If you have never tried a Falanghina, it\u2019s about time you did.\u00a0<\/p>\n
