Series Top Picks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month\u2019s Premier Series Top Picks causes me a bit of consternation.\u00a0 Yeah, it\u2019s the choice thing again.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always been fond of Italy\u2019s estate bottled white wines.\u00a0 They stand in stark contrast to the oceans of commercial Soaves and Pinot Grigios that the \u201cindustrial producers,\u201d whose names everyone can recite, turn out.\u00a0 This month\u2019s Premier Series wine, the 2010 Forchir estate bottled Pinot Grigio, is the mirror opposite of the \u201ccommercial grade\u201d of wine that rarely excites.\u00a0 Hence, this month\u2019s first Top Pick goes to Forchir\u2019s 2010 Villa del Borgo\u2019s Fruili Pinot Grigio \u2013 a pure, refreshing, flavorful white wine that captures the ethereal quality of Pinot Grigio without sacrificing flavor.\u00a0 It\u2019s not buttery or complex, but it\u2019s a perfect feature for the month of August and a great value, too.\u00a0 So, it\u2019s the red wines this month that make my job tough.\u00a0 Peltier Station\u2019s 2009 is a luscious Cabernet that rocked our tasting panel.\u00a0 The wine\u2019s texture, flavor, and seamless quality put a lot of the more expensive California Cabernets we tasted to shame, so it, too, has earned a\u00a0 Top Pick for the month.\u00a0 Better value in California Cabernet is hard to find.\u00a0 But we have a co-recipient in Bodegas Carchelo\u2019s 2010 <em>Carchelo<\/em> from Jumilla.\u00a0 Carchelo captures the power and flavor of Monastrell (Mourvedre).\u00a0 Although already drinking beautifully now, this wine will knock your socks off if given a few more months in bottle.\u00a0 It stands in testimony to the quality and variety one can expect from Spain, so it, too, deserves to be a Top
